We recently discovered a fun fact about the building that our shop is in: it used to be a movie theater! Opened in 1915, The Colonial Theatre was one of Orange County's first theaters. The front of our store was the marquee and the inside was the entryway into the auditorium (which is now our parking lot!). Isn't that neat?
Fortunately for us, the theater closed permanently in 1952 and (eventually) made way for our flagship store!
We love how historical the Circle is. But often times, with historical comes haunted. We've heard lots of creepy stories- from ghost sightings near the fountain to paranormal activity in the antique shops and restaurants (Rutabegorz is supposedly one of the most haunted restaurants here). We have yet to see any movie-goer ghosts passing through Spotted Moth and we kind of hope it stays that way. No salty popcorn hands on our clothes please!
